CHENNAI: Anxious to rejuvenate the Congress in the state, the party is looking to the Tamil film industry for fresh blood, but actor Vijay, who met AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi last month, dampened hopes by saying on Sunday that he has no immediate political plans.
A day earlier, superstar Rajnikanth turned down an offer of admission by Rahul, explaining that he had no plan to enter politics.
Rahul said a few days ago that Vijay had met him and evinced interest in the way the Youth Congress elections were held, but did not elaborate on whether the party was wooing him. Vijay is popular among youngsters and has given the impression that he is interested in a political career by floating a peoples movement, largely comprising his fans.
However, Vijay called a press conference on Sunday to clarify his position. I am in no position to take a decision regarding politics, he said. Yet, he did not rule out a decision in the future. I might, was his cryptic reply when a reporter wanted to know if his Makkal Iyakkam would be converted into a political party.
